Our friends at the Edinburgh Watch Company

May 15, 2020

To those of you that have followed our news page over the last few years you may remember I introduced you to our friends at Edinburgh Watch Company. It’s founder Jonathan Gilbert like us has a love of sports cars too but since a teenager has had an interest in wrist watches that developed into a passion so when a redundancy from his banking career at RBS came along he grasped the opportunity to build his own luxury watch business in 2014.

As Jonathan now approaches his 6th year in business he has enoyed curating and selling hundreds of fine Swiss timepieces and has shared with me today a small selection of his Limited Editions along with some special offers on his website that I thought may be of interest to you.

His company is not a large corporate affair but instead a boutique business that offers a 1:1 personal service where Jonathan offers his expertise and can guide you whether you are thinking of selling or investing in a beautiful timepiece.

As a customer myself I am happy to endorse the views of the 300+ 5* testimonials you can see when perusing his website.

Please mention your Border Reivers connection when contacting Jonathan and he will do his best to look after you. You can reach Jonathan on 07765 896 896 or via his website https://edinburghwatchcompany.co.uk/

Meantime I share an extract from his recent newsletter which you can sign up for on the EWC homepage

Limited Editions

We really enjoy buying Limited Edition watches as they are often unique and generally hold their value well in the long term.

Perhaps my favourite watch I’ve seen of recent is our 18ct Moonshine gold Omega Speedmaster. This celebrates 50 years since the Speedmaster landed on the moon on the Apollo 11 mission. Just 1014 of these watches have been made and this largely replicates the original made by Omega 50 years ago. It is hand-wound, features a domed meteorite inlay and is finished in a simply gorgeous specially manufactured 18ct Moonshine gold. This unworn masterpiece is likely a watch for the collector but one I hope will be worn and enjoyed rather than left in a safe!

The relationship between Omega and the 007 James Bond franchise is strong and as a result it has produced a wonderful collection of watches through the years. We have the latest unworn Seamaster 300m version in stock which offers you a choice to wear it on a rubber strap or the traditional stainless steel bracelet. The Seamaster 300M is an excellent watch that is very comfortable to wear, highly accurate and has a striking design.

Also celebrating 50 years is Tag Heuer with their Monaco series, an iconic watch made famous by Steve McQueen. In 2019 they brought out five limited edition versions each celebrating 10 years. We have the last one in the series 2009-2019 to which there were only 169 made. This would make a wonderful gift for a motorsport fan with it’s link to the racetrack and period leather strap. Like our other watches above this is also unworn.

Testimonial

This is to state that when I visited the premises of Border Reivers,I was really impressed by the knowledge of Tom Fitzsimmons when it comes to Porsche. The standard to which the cars are presented is meticulous.I have been communicating with them over many years as their offerings of Porsche have seemed mouthwatering, but one never knows by conversation alone the extent of enthusiasm and detail knowledge that Tom has put into the business, so it was a real pleasure to be there for real. I have been connected with the Marque Porsche ever since the early 60s and have driven them internationally and for Porsche themselves over many years. I have been buying, selling and racing Porsche for 48 years and it is a real pleasure to see such enthusiasm translated into such a passionate business always seeking perfection in the product.UnknownQuick Nick with his trade mark front wheel in the air
