Border Reivers are delighted to offer this beautiful and outstanding MG BGT for the 2nd time. Not only has this fantastic car been mechanically rebuilt and upgraded, it has covered a warranted 60,000 miles from new and comes with an exceptional history dating back to new. The MG comes with its original Leyland Cars service book confirming the car was sold new Modem Computer Services Ltd based on the Strand, London WC2. The MG was delivered new in Leyland White on the 7th December 1978 and supplied by Jack Barclay Ltd. The service book contains 12 stamps up to 1992 and we also have MOT’s dating back to when the MG had covered just 11,000 miles in 1985. Further paperwork includes an extensive file of service and maintenance invoices over the past 30 years and a restoration invoice file and photographic record from a West Yorkshire restoration specialist in 1993. Invoices totalling thousands of pounds worth of expenditure. There are other interesting records which include an early 1990’s fuel consumption record book and an MG Car Club concours event points sheet from 1997.

The second folder of history began in 2009, with the conversion. This car was chosen as a fantastic base considering important factors such as the fabulous history, low mileage and essentially, the superb structural condition of the car. In 2009 the MG was run for a year and in January 2010 taken off the road and stripped down for mechanical restoration and conversion. Over three years, the MG was superbly rebuild with no expense spared and in 2013, put back on the road. New parts included a solid state fuel pump and pipes, alternator, radiator, starter motor, halogen headlight units, brake pads and callipers, stainless steel front brake hoses, front suspension dampers, front lower road springs, front bushes, wheel bearings, track rod ends, rear Spax dampers, rear lower leaf springs, rubber and Nylatron rear bushes, wheel cylinders, rear brake pipes and stainless steel flexi pipes, new oil cooler and hoses, electric fan and relay with override switch, heater matrix and pipework and stainless steel exhaust system. The carburettors were rebuilt, the clutch master cylinder rebuilt, the clutch and thrust bearing replaced and a new thermostat fitted. Further work included a new water pump and new overdrive inhibitor switch. Engine work included fitting a new oil pump and the head was rebuilt with the valves ground and porting smoothed out. The bottom end was checked and found excellent, the gearbox checked and cleaned. The exterior was restyled with front and rear Sebring valances and a new set of Minilight wheels with new tyres. Since completion of the mechanical work, the MG has been fully repainted and the original seats have been re-covered in leather. The MG has been detailed to a top class show winning standard with an exceptional, clean engine bay and detailed, clean underside and painted rear axle.

As a result of the three year programme of work, it is no surprise that this MG is outstanding to drive. Finding a better driving MGB would be difficult as the car has been superbly set up. With all new uprated suspension and brakes, the car is just wonderful on the road. The engine is exceptional with correct oil pressure and the gearbox and overdrive a delight to use. The MG is something quite special and is perfect for long distance touring, classic rallies and having recently entered a local show and picked up a first prize,It can be proudly shown off at shows and events without any preparation. The MG has covered less than 750 miles since completion. The decals have since been removed.
